Dementia Resources

OUR MISSION

Dementia Resources exists to ensure that no person facing a dementia diagnosis feels alone, unsupported, or left to search for answers without guidance. Inspired by one woman’s own journey through early-stage Alzheimer’s, our mission is to gather, organize, and share trusted resources, support groups, education, and advocacy tools for people living with brain change, their care partners, and the communities who support them.

These resources are to help people find connection, understanding, practical support, and hope—especially in the moments when they need it most.

JULIE’S STORY

When J was first diagnosed with Mild Cognitive Impairment with Alzheimer’s pathology (early-stage Alzheimer’s Disease), she was told she could expect six months of capacity and two years to live. She was given no resources or counseling to deal with that devastating diagnosis. She embarked on a four-month journey of searching for groups that would help her understand her condition and how to deal with it. She saved the resources she found in her search history.

After months of finding that there were no local support groups for people in the early stages of Alzheimer’s or other types of dementia, she found the Memory Warriors group on Facebook. This led to online support meetings through the Dementia Action Alliance. Finally, she had found people she could talk to who were living with a dementia diagnosis and were experiencing the same feelings and problems that she had. These meetings led her to other organizations and support groups, filling her calendar with meetings on Zoom. She has been invited to speaking engagements and advocacy for people living with brain change and educating those who care for them. People in the support groups would ask her for resources on a particular topic, and she would go through her search history to see what she had visited previously and share those resources. Ultimately, she asked for help to organize the resources by topic, and help making that list available to other people who were searching like her. This web site is the result of that ongoing effort.
